When is Naked Hiking Day? I do have a faint recollection of some articles a few years ago about it being on Fathers day and warning people they might come across naked hikers if they were out with their families, but it is a very faint recollection.

Naked Hiking Day is on the summer solstice which is usually June 21st i think. Tradition is to hike naked on the Appalachian Trail but we have taken it to attempt an epic hike on that day. A few years ago it also fell on Fathers Day which meant many shared the trails with families and caused some problems.

Haven't been able to figure out which organization or entity originated/promotes Naked Hiking Day. Anyone know? Have a link? Thanks.

To my knowledge NWHC, there is no organization or entity that promotes naked hiking day. Tradition among through hikers on the Appalachian Trail has that the day of the Summer Solstice, June 21 is worthy of celebrating, it being the longest, and it also occurring somewhat near the mid-point of many people's hike. By some hikers' reasoning, why not go ahead and celebrate it in the nude? Over the years, the idea resonated up and down the trail and eventually grew beyond. From there, the idea is yours to do with, as you wish. Obviously among us naked hikers, the idea strikes a particularly enticing chord. So why not find an appropriate place in your own neck of the woods, maybe get together with some friends, and celebrate the Summer Solstice with a quiet hike done in the most natural way? If you've not hiked in the nude before, this is a good day to experience this most pleasant activity for the first time. Enjoy Naked Hiking Day 2011. -Dan
